MADE IN DETROIT
Short Film
Detroit is often portrayed through a single lens — one of decline, hardship, and abandonment. But photographer Brian Day sees it differently.
Having lived in the city for over 40 years, Brian has witnessed its struggles — but also its strength. Made in Detroit is a short film that explores how an artist can choose their narrative, and how that choice can shift the way others see the world.
Through his images and words, Brian challenges the tired tropes. He speaks with quiet conviction about focusing on hope, creativity, and resilience, in a place where those things are often overlooked.
Our Approach
We approached this project as a portrait of both an artist and a city, letting Brian’s voice and images carry the weight. Shot on location in Detroit, we used natural light, real environments, and a minimal crew to stay present and responsive.
The visuals are intimate, grounded, and reflective — echoing Brian’s own photographic style.
Made in Detroit is a subtle but powerful reminder of the role artists play in shaping perception and the responsibility that comes with holding a camera.
