Lighting up the dark.
An adventure in creativity.
In 2023, adventure photographer Krystle Wright made waves by winning the prestigious Red Bull Illume award with her striking image Seventh Serpent—a glowing crack of light cutting through the sandstone of Moab. In a world oversaturated with images, breaking through the noise is no small feat. But through her unique approach to illuminating the natural features, Krystle had tapped into something fresh—something that felt entirely her own.
"Lighting Up The Dark" follows Krystle as she pushes that vision further, experimenting with light and form against the dramatic landscape of kunanyi / Mount Wellington, Tasmania. It's a behind-the-scenes look at the process, challenges, and creative spark of an artist redefining how we see the world of climbing.
Our role was to document Krystle’s process — the setups, the setbacks, the spark behind the scenes. Filming took place over a series of cold and foggy, dark nights where the elements, initially viewed as an obstacle, quickly became a blessing, giving the images depth and mystery, turning a familiar landscape into something entirely new.
With a small, nimble crew and a documentary mindset, we focused on capturing real moments as they happened — no staging, no re-dos. Just Krystle, in her element, making magic!
These are the kind of projects we love to be a part of. Uncovering the story as it takes place.
